Review: Kraft Food and Family Magazine

Finals week, how stressful. Normally I would be baking to relax my mind from studying, but since I don't have the necessary equipment or ingredients, I look up recipes I want to bake and save the recipes in Word. Ah, my personal computerized cookbook *pets laptop*

4 finals down, 1 more to go. 2 weeks from today I fly back to the states. Since I probably won't have any interesting recipes to post until June, I decided to do a cookbook review.

Kraft Food and Family Magazine

These magazines have to be one of my favorites for several reasons:

1. I enjoy receiving mail that has nothing to do with credit cards.
2. A pet peeve of mine is recipes without a picture. If I remember correctly, all or at least most of the recipes should have a corresponding picture.
3. They're FREE!!

That's right - subscription to this magazine is free!! All you have to do is register at Kraft Food's website. Click here to register. If you don't want to receive magazines in the mail, you can always opt to receive the emails.

To get an idea on what recipes the magazines offer, you can visit here.

Since I'm in Ireland and my magazines are back in PA, I can't give an accurate review. I do remember going through the magazines I had and used sticky tabs to mark the recipes I wanted to try. After I was done, my mom asked why I just tabbed every single page LOL Come on now, there were a few pages I skipped, like recipes for meatloaf or something with blueberries. I don't eat either.

I got excited this morning because when I visited the website to do a review, the magazine cover changed. That means Summer 2007 version is in the mail and should be on my bed (or under the cat) when I fly home.

Not a very informative review, but I promise to be more detailed in the future!

I Think She Enjoys Cheese TOO Much...

Emer, when I go home and see a block of cheese, I shall think of you. You sure do love cheese. That is why you decided to eat fried cheese for dinner. Silly Irish girl.

Mozzarella in Carrozza

Emer decided to try one of Nigella Lawson's recipes. She found the recipe at About.com. Her final thoughts on it: "It is an easy recipe, good for a quick lunch or even party food with different dips. One for the cheese lovers."

Who Would've Thought Food Could Make My Brain Hurt?

I hate questions that make me think for more than 10 minutes. I don't know why she did it, but Emer asked me to name my top 5 favorite foods of all times. She wanted me to include desserts and drinks, but I just couldn't include them without having my brain explode. So here's my list (after 20 minutes):

1. BBQ Ribs
2. Gyros
3. General Tso's Chicken
4. Shrimp Scampi
5. Amish Macaroni Salad

What is your list of top 5 favorite foods?

Special Guest

Welcome Emer to the wonderful world of recipes! We are obsessed with hash browns so of course she would come up with this dinner.

3 large hash browns
1/2 cup spaghetti sauce
1/2 cup grated cheddar
1/4 tsp garlic powder

1. Cook pasta according to directions. Meanwhile, cook hash browns until done.

2. Drain pasta and place back into pot. Add sauce to pasta. Mix well.

3. Chop hash browns into 1 inch pieces and add to pot. Add garlic powder. Stir and continue to heat for 3 minutes. Serve with grated cheese on top.

A New Twist on Quesadillas

I love tortillas. You can pretty much put ANYTHING inside, and it'll still taste good. I went over to my friend Emer's house this past weekend. Since it was my last weekend in Dublin *TEAR* we decided to make a new treat. Very tasty, although we were lacking caramel sauce and ice cream.

Dessert Quesadillas

2 small apples, sliced
1/3 cup chopped peacans
1/4 cup frozen cranberries
1 tsp cinnamon
1/4 cup + 1 tsp granulated sugar
1 tsp lemon juice
1 tsp butter
4 oz. cream cheese, softened
Caramel sauce (optional)
Vanilla ice cream (optional)

1. Saute apples, pecans, and cranberries in butter. Add cinnamon, 1 tsp sugar, and lemon juice. Remove from skillet and set aside.

2. Add 1/4 cup sugar to cream cheese. Stir until mixed well. Place tortilla in non-stick heated skillet. Spread cream cheese mixture on half of tortilla; top evenly with apple mixture. Fold empty half of tortilla over apple mixture. Heat for few minutes; flip. Heat for another few minutes. Place on a plate; top with ice cream and caramel sauce (optional).

Makes 2 quesadillas (unless tortillas are small)
